Thinking of working abroad? Wanting to work and travel the world? Let’s find out if the summer season life is for you…

The Hangovers

Can you deal with a hangover? We always promote sensible drinking but we all know that some nights will get out of hand. Picture this: You and your mates are sat in your apartment having a few casual drinks, maybe even “just one beer”, next thing you know it’s 6am you’re stumbling down the road with  kebab in hand realising you have work in 4 hours! Doing  a summer season is all about partying like a rockstar but then turning up to work ontime the next day!

Partying every night !

Doing a summer season in a European party hotspot can be hard work.  Most resorts offer a jam packed calendar full of events that are not to be missed. Do you have the willpower to stay in while all of your mates go and see Carl Cox at Pacha? Think of the FOMO! At The Working Holiday Company we always encourage sensible drinking, although most jobs are club or bar based so a drink is always on the cards. Just remember you’re there all season, not just for a weeks holiday, have a few nights off and learn to take it easy. It is a marathon not a sprint!

Living with friends

What could be better? Living and partying with your best mates. Sometimes living with friends isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Make sure you are compatible with the people you move in with, if you’re a clean freak make sure you don’t move in with someone messy. Although if you can get over the down sides you will make some amazing memories; pre drinking together before big nights out and days spent hungover lounging about.

Long hours on your feet

Most seasonal jobs involve being on your feet, managers expect you to be full of energy from the the moment your shift starts right up until they close the doors. Whether you’re doing ticket selling, bar or pr work you’ll need to keep a smile on your face no matter how tired you are. However, with the bad comes the good, you’re getting paid to party with free drinks at work while the DJ blasts out tunes to you and your mates!

Home sick

Unfortunately six months in the sun isn’t for everyone.  It can be a big step moving away from home, especially if you are used to your parents helping you get by. Those who are willing to move outside their comfort zones will learn a lot about themselves. Independence is something most young adults are looking to achieve, what better way to prove yourself than looking after yourself for a summer.

Too much sun!

Is there such thing? With some of our resorts hitting highs of 40 degrees be sure to pack some factor 50. Most of your days will be spent sweating off that hangover whilst tanning on the beach. Can’t tan? Don’t like the sun? Then get yourself to a shaded terrace and have a hair of the dog.

The post season blues

Yes this is real! Once you get home everything will seem boring. You’ll sit around reminiscing all the good times wishing you could do it all again. The ups, the downs, the highs and the lows, the big nights out and the squad adventures.  You’ll be itching for reunions and before you know it you’ll be looking at flights for season number two!
